"We must recognize the rights of each species to its habitat, migratory routes and place in the community. For humans to assume rights to occupy land by excluding other life forms from their needed habitat is to offend the community in its deepest structure - to declare war on the very life forms we are dependant on for our own survival."

Objection Letter Deadline Jun 30!!!!

As you may be aware, Nelson Aggregate has enacted the 45 notification period under the aggregate resources act. This means that the public has only 45 days (until June 30th 2006) in which to submit any objections to the regulatory authorities regarding this proposed application. PERL believes this constitutes an attempt to bypass due process. We have therefore created a series to objection letters to make it easy for people objecting to this to do so.

7 different sample letters are available for download from our site. Please go to the bottom of the page (below) to find all sample letters and a note explaining the process.

Please be sure to sign your name and send to both Nelson Aggregate and the Ministry of Natural resources. An additional note explaining the objection process and the MNR and Nelson's mailing address can be found in Sample letter 7. This is the most comprehensive letter for those who wish to cover the most ground.

In order to make sure your comments are fully considered, it is best to write a note at the top of any form letters indicating any additional objections you may have and indicating your support for the content of the letter.

Sample Letter

PERL encourages it's members to send letters to our elected representatives.

We are providing the following sample to be used as a guideline only. It is always preferable (and has more impact) if you send a unique letter written in your own words, however, if you don't have the time or inclination to be creative, please at least send a copy of this letter over your signature. We must let our elected officials know of our strong reservations and concerns with this development proposal. The number of letters sent will make a difference.

PLEASE EITHER COPY AND PASTE THE TEXT BELOW, OR CLICK THE LINK, PRINT THE PDF FILE, SIGN IT AND SEND IT. THANKS!!!!

SAMPLE LETTER TO JART (Joint Agency Review Team):

Helma Geerts
Regional Municipality of Halton
(Senior Planner)
Joint Agency review Team (JART)
JART Chairperson
1151 Bronte Rd.
Oakville ON L6M 3L1

Dear Ms. Geerts,

I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed Nelson Aggregate quarry on Mt Nemo in North Burlington.

As you know, the proposed site is part of the Niagara Escarpment (a world biosphere reserve). In my view, the costs of this project, which include further disruptions to the area’s water table, continued air, water, noise and light pollution and the destruction of critical habitat of known threatened species such as the Jefferson salamander and Butternut tree, far outweigh any temporary economic benefit that the community may receive from the materials mined at this location.

We must consider the social costs associated with operation of a huge and expanding commercial complex in the midst of a quiet rural area. This is simply not the right place for such an operation.

I encourage you, to take a clear message to our elected officials - this proposal is simply a bad idea. They must reject Nelson Aggregates proposal.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours truly,
